It’s beginning to look a lot like Monticello!
Exterior work at the welcome center at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens is moving along with the addition of Federalist faux pillars on the front of the building. A new large door has been installed on the north side of the building, and a new large window on the south side adds welcome daylight.
The owners of the building are having a new roof put on. The top layer, a black rubber membrane, may be suitable for rooftop art in the future, according to a welcome center committee member. Pictured is a crew from C & R Construction working on the roof on Thursday.
When the visitor center is finished, along with public handicap-accessible restrooms for downtown visitors, there will be exhibit space featuring displays highlighting Thomas Jefferson’s agricultural heritage. There will also be two workspaces with desks and a small kitchenette.
The Greene County Welcome Center is a collaborative effort of Greene County Chamber and Development, Jefferson Matters: Main Street, and the Thomas Jefferson Gardens.
